Throughout his career as a flautist, Ian has always taught, both in schools and privately. He has taught flute for Hertfordshire Music Service and coached young woodwind players in National Childrens Wind Sinfonia. Ian currently teaches flute at St Augustine's Priory as well as conducting their Junior and Senior Orchestras and also South Hampstead High School, conducting the Concert Band and Symphonic Windband. He also coaches and runs various Flute Ensembles. Ian has taught on a number of summer music courses and adjudicates school music competitions. His students regularly achieve high marks in their ABRSM music examinations. 
He is now delivering online lessons to any students who wish to continue or explore their flute playing further.

Just to let you know that Anna is loving her lessons with you so far and seems to have gained a new lease of life in her playing. I wholeheartedly support looking at a range of repertoire and not just focusing on the exams. In her last school, Anna was playing her grade 3 pieces for about a year which I think was quite counter-productive in the end and caused her to be quite burned out and bored with it all, which is certainly no longer the case!

Ian Judson has taught my daughter Martha from the age of eight through to the present day. He has been a great force for good in our lives - a reassuring rock of musical harmony throughout the stormy seas of adolescence. Martha's enthusiasm has waxed and waned, but Ian has managed the phases beautifully, ensuring she's had all the benefit of orchestras, wind groups, and Salsera which she loved. There's never been too much pressure or too little. Ian ensured Martha flew through the Grade 5 theory exam and she's about to take Grade 7 flute. It makes me so happy that Martha is still playing her flute as she approaches the 6th form - indeed this half term she brought her flute to Greece and played beautiful tunes across the blue Aegean Sea.

Ian is an outstanding flautist and teacher. I have watched many of his young pupils flourish and become high calibre, accomplished young musicians. Ian has high expectations of his pupils whilst managing to keep a rapport of friendliness and fun. Consequently Ian's pupils are motivated and keen to achieve.

Ian is experienced teaching all ages, he works in the Junior and Senior departments of both his schools and has taught adults privately. He has also developed his teaching succesfully to be suitable for online lessons and the majority of his recent exam candidates achieved distinction level in their examinations. Some of his ex students are now flute teachers themselves and some are currently at music college and university. He bases his teaching around the ABRSM syllabus, though not exclusively, and aims to be as thorough as possible so students feel fully prepared and comfortable if they wish to take examinations. Ian has spoken about teaching and repertoire at various ABRSM teaching conferences, as well as leading workshops for young flute players.
